Abstract:

The present study has been made an attempt to analyze the growth and trend pattern of area, production and productivity of sugarcane in India. The findings of the study were based on the time series data collected for a period of 66 years i.e. from 1950-51 to 2015-16. The study revealed that the compound growth rate for the entire period were 1.665, 2.938 and 1.252, respectively for area, production and productivity of sugarcane in India. Coefficient of variation has shown 31.60, 49.90 and 23.21 per cent for area, production and productivity, respectively. Trend analysis indicated that linear trend model was best fit for area and production where as polynomial trend model showed best fit for productivity of sugarcane in the country. Forecasting was done for a period of seven years from 2016-17 to 2022-23 to know the future trend in sugarcane area, production and productivity in the country. Forecasted values are very close to actual values and have showed positive increasing trend for area, production and productivity of sugarcane in India.
